چکیده

In this short retrospective study, the author gives account of some aspects and the main results of human population genetical studies in Hungary. In the foreground of his interest is research taking as its basis the population as a genetic unit, which demonstrates the genetic structures of the populations, the geographic (and other) mechanisms of isolation, migration, the variability of genetic markers (blood group-, serumand enzyme polymorphisms, deutan/protan anomaly), i.e., which are related to the problems of human microevolutional processes. Genetic screening for individuals at high risk for type 1 diabetes in the general population using HLA Class II alleles as disease markers. A comparison between three European populations with variable rates of disease incidence.

BACKGROUND To develop screening strategies for identification of individuals at increased genetic risk for type 1 diabetes in three populations with variable disease incidence rates and distinct ethnic origin. METHODS A stepwise HLA DQB1-DQA1-DRB1-based screening approach was evaluated. Patients with childhood-onset type 1 diabetes were recruited from Finland (n = 1739), Hungary (n = 149), an...

Population structure of honey bees in the Carpathian Basin (Hungary) confirms introgression from surrounding subspecies

Carniolan honey bees (Apis mellifera carnica) are considered as an indigenous subspecies in Hungary adapted to most of the ecological and climatic conditions in this area. However, during the last decades Hungarian beekeepers have recognized morphological signs of the Italian honey bee (Apis mellifera ligustica). As the natural distribution of the honey bee subspecies can be affected by the imp...
